Who might be able to join this trial:

This trial has two groups of participants — people considered "at risk" of psychosis (CHR-P group), and healthy volunteers (HC group).

For the "at-risk" group:

• You are between 18 and 40 years old
• You are able to understand the study and agree to take part
• You have been assessed and identified as being at higher risk of developing psychosis, based on a specific clinical assessment tool (called the CAARMS)
• Your assessment shows you experience certain unusual thoughts or beliefs at a mild to moderate level (confirm with trial site)

For the healthy volunteer group:

• You are between 18 and 40 years old
• You are able to understand the study and agree to take part

Who may not be able to join:

For the "at-risk" group:

• You have previously had a full episode of psychosis
• You are currently taking certain medications that strongly affect brain chemistry, such as benzodiazepines, anti-seizure drugs, mood stabilisers, sleeping tablets (zopiclone or zolpidem), ketamine, opiates, atomoxetine, or memantine
• You are currently or recently taking any antipsychotic medication
• You have been diagnosed with a neurological condition, including epilepsy
• You are currently pregnant or breastfeeding
• You have severe kidney problems
• You have a known allergy to a medication called levetiracetam
• You have any reason you cannot safely have an MRI scan
• Your IQ is below 70, as measured by a specific test (WAIS-III)
• You are acutely unwell to the point where you cannot consent to taking part

For the healthy volunteer group:

• You have a personal history of any mental health condition
• You have a parent, sibling, or child who has been diagnosed with a psychotic disorder
• You have been diagnosed with a neurological condition, including epilepsy
• You are currently pregnant, breastfeeding, or trying to conceive
• You are currently taking certain medications that strongly affect brain chemistry, such as benzodiazepines, anti-seizure drugs, mood stabilisers, sleeping tablets (zopiclone or zolpidem), ketamine, opiates, atomoxetine, or memantine
• You are currently or recently taking any antipsychotic medication
• You have any reason you cannot safely have an MRI scan
• Your IQ is below 70, as measured by a specific test (WAIS-III)
