Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have been clinically diagnosed with an acute ischemic stroke (a stroke caused by a blocked blood vessel in the brain)
- People aged 18 years or older
- People whose stroke involves a blockage in the front part of the brain's blood supply (anterior circulation)
- People with a stroke severity score (called NIHSS) greater than 3, indicating at least a mild-to-moderate stroke
- People whose stroke symptoms began within 24 hours of being enrolled in the trial
Who may not be able to join:
- People whose stroke has caused a large area of brain damage
- People who have bleeding in the brain shown on initial scans, or who have had a previous bleed in the brain
- People whose blood vessel blockage has been present for a long time (chronic occlusion) rather than being a new event
- People who weigh more than 125 kilograms
- People who have been given clot-dissolving medications (thrombolytics) or certain blood-thinning drugs called glycoprotein IIb/IIIa inhibitors
- People with an ongoing significant blood clotting disorder, a history of bleeding disorders, other conditions that raise the risk of bleeding, or active uncontrolled bleeding
- People who have had a stroke in the 90 days before enrolling
- People who are unable to have a specialised brain scan (a contrast perfusion scan using either MRI or CT)
