Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who live independently in the community in Sherbrooke (Quebec) or Hamilton or London (Ontario)
- People aged 45 or older
- People who have been diagnosed with knee osteoarthritis, OR who have knee pain that occurs with movement, with either no morning knee stiffness or morning stiffness that lasts 30 minutes or less
- People who have experienced average knee pain of at least 3 out of 10 over the past month
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have an inflammatory arthritis condition that affects the whole body (such as rheumatoid arthritis)
- People who have had any injection into the knee in the past 3 months
- People who are unable to get up and down from the floor on their own
- People who have had surgery or a significant injury to a leg or foot in the past 6 months
- People who are currently taking part in another clinical trial for osteoarthritis
- People who use a walking aid such as a cane, walker, or crutches
- People who are currently receiving treatment for their knee osteoarthritis pain, such as physiotherapy
- People who have planned trips or absences lasting more than one week during the trial period
- People who have neurological or psychiatric conditions that would make a type of gentle brain stimulation called transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) unsafe for them (confirm with trial site)
- People who have had brain surgery or have a history of a brain tumour
- People who have any metal implants in their body
- People who have epilepsy or a history of substance misuse or dependence
- People who have a cochlear implant (hearing device) or an ocular implant (eye device)
- People who have a pacemaker or implanted cardiac defibrillator (heart devices)
- People who have eczema on their scalp
