Who might be able to join this trial:
- People aged between 19 and 80 years old
- People who have been diagnosed with hardening of the arteries affecting the blood vessels in the legs — this includes people whose ankle-to-arm blood pressure ratio is below 0.85 with leg pain when walking, people with more than 50% narrowing in a leg artery shown on a scan, or people who have previously had a procedure or surgery to treat leg artery disease
- People who have hardening of the arteries affecting two or more areas of the body — such as having heart artery disease, a history of significant narrowing of the neck arteries or a stroke or mini-stroke, or a large bulge (aneurysm) in the main artery of the chest or abdomen
- People who are already taking cholesterol-lowering medication, or people whose LDL ("bad") cholesterol level is 70 mg/dL or higher and who are not currently on cholesterol-lowering medication
Who may not be able to join:
- People with severe loss of blood flow to a limb that is causing serious tissue damage or wounds (known as critical limb ischemia, Rutherford stages 4–6)
- People who have had a heart attack, stroke, mini-stroke, or leg amputation within the past 6 months
- People with active liver disease or significantly elevated liver enzyme levels (more than twice the normal upper limit)
- People with severely reduced kidney function (eGFR below 30 mL/min/1.73m²) or who are currently on dialysis
- People who have previously had an allergic reaction or serious side effects from statin or ezetimibe medications that required stopping treatment
- People who have received a solid organ transplant (such as a kidney, liver, or heart transplant)
- People who are pregnant, possibly pregnant, or currently breastfeeding
- People with a life expectancy of less than 3 years
- People who would not be able to attend follow-up appointments for at least 1 year
- People who are unable to understand or read the consent form
