Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have had a stroke (either caused by a blocked blood vessel or bleeding in the brain), in any part of the brain, that occurred at least 24 hours before joining the study
- People who are willing and able to give their consent to take part in the study
- People whose medical condition has been stabilised
Who may not be able to join:
- People who are unable to cooperate with the study, as determined by a standard memory and thinking test (the Montreal Cognitive Assessment) where a score below 15 is recorded
- People whose medical condition is not yet stable, who have a reduced level of consciousness, or who are experiencing significant physical restlessness or agitation
- People who lack sufficient trunk (torso) control to safely sit upright in a chair or wheelchair, as measured by a specific balance test (a score below 12 on item 3 of the Trunk Control Test)
- People where a speech and language assessment confirms they have difficulty understanding spoken or written language to a degree that would prevent them from understanding what the study involves
