Who might be able to join this trial:

  • People who have a family history of age-related macular degeneration (AMD), a condition affecting eyesight
  • People who have high cholesterol (hyperlipidemia) or diabetes that is being managed

Who may not be able to join:

  • People who dislike or are allergic to goji berries, or any ingredients in the study's fiber wafers and gummies (such as wheat, corn, oats, soy, natural orange flavor, xylitol, annatto, pectin, or other food ingredients)
  • People who drink more than 2 alcoholic drinks per day
  • People with signs of substance or alcohol misuse
  • People who are currently using or plan to use a blood-thinning medication (such as Coumadin or Warfarin) at any point during the study
  • People taking multivitamins or supplements containing lutein and/or zeaxanthin — though those willing to stop may be considered for enrolment 6 months after stopping (confirm with trial site)
  • People who have started a new medication within the past 6 months, or who plan to change their medications in the next 6 months
  • People who have any international travel planned during the study period
  • People who regularly eat more than 3 combined servings per day of spinach, kale, lettuce, orange bell peppers, corn, parsley, squash, broccoli, pumpkin, or edamame
  • People who regularly eat more than 3 eggs per day
  • People who are currently taking part in another interventional research study
  • People diagnosed with inflammatory bowel disease, irritable bowel syndrome, another gastrointestinal condition, those undergoing cancer treatment, or those with a weakened immune system — or any condition where taking lutein, zeaxanthin, or fibre supplements would not be appropriate or would interfere with participation
  • People with a physical characteristic or condition that would prevent them from completing the study procedures
  • People with a medical or psychiatric condition that, in the opinion of the study investigator, could affect study results or prevent completion of the study
