Who might be able to join this trial:
- You are 18 years of age or older
- You have been diagnosed with chronic pancreatitis based on specific medical criteria (Cambridge III or IV, or M-ANNHEIM definitive criteria — confirm with trial site if unsure which applies to you)
- You are already scheduled to receive an endoscopy-based procedure to help unblock your pancreatic duct as part of your regular medical care (this may include breaking up or removing stones, or widening the duct to allow placement of a small tube called a stent)
- You have had pain on 3 or more days per week for at least 3 months
- Your average pain level over the past week has been at least 4 out of 10 on a pain scale
Who may not be able to join:
- You have a long-term pain condition other than chronic pancreatitis
- You have had a flare-up of acute (sudden, severe) pancreatitis within the last 2 months
- You have had a scope-based procedure (such as ERCP or a nerve-blocking procedure near the pancreas) or pancreatic surgery within the last 6 months
- You are currently using illegal drugs (marijuana use is not excluded)
- You have been assessed by an anesthesiologist as being at high medical risk for procedures (confirm with trial site)
- Your pancreatitis is caused by your immune system, or you have a tumor or growth affecting your pancreas
- You have a major neurological condition such as a stroke, epilepsy that is not well controlled, or dementia
- You have been diagnosed with schizophrenia
- You regularly take benzodiazepines (a type of anti-anxiety or sleep medication) — note that occasional, short-acting use may be acceptable as long as you can pause taking them before a brain wave (EEG) recording
- You are pregnant
