Who might be able to join this trial:
- You are 18 years old or older
- You are willing and able to sign a consent form agreeing to take part in the trial
- You are covered by the French national social security system
- You are using effective birth control methods
- If you are a woman who could become pregnant, you have had a negative blood pregnancy test
- You have been diagnosed with Giant Cell Arteritis (GCA) according to the most recent 2022 international guidelines
- You have active inflammation of the aorta (the main blood vessel from the heart) related to GCA, either newly diagnosed or returning, confirmed by a medical scan (PET scan, CT scan, or MRI)
- You do not have any cancer
- You have no medical reason that would prevent you from taking the medication Tocilizumab
Who may not be able to join:
- You are currently pregnant or breastfeeding
- You have a history of severely weakened immune system, or you have tested positive for HIV or hepatitis B
- You have previously not responded to Tocilizumab or had a bad reaction to it
- You have tested positive for tuberculosis (TB) in a specific blood test (QuantiFERON test)
- You have received a live vaccine (such as MMR or yellow fever) within the 3 months before the trial starts
- You have had cancer at any point in the last 5 years
- You have seriously reduced kidney function (confirm with trial site)
- You have significant liver problems, shown by certain liver enzyme levels being very high in blood tests (confirm with trial site)
- You have certain abnormalities in your blood test results, including a very low platelet count, a very low level of a type of white blood cell called neutrophils, or a very low haemoglobin level (confirm with trial site)
