Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have been diagnosed with asthma by a doctor and are currently taking regular asthma medication to manage it
- People whose asthma is not well-controlled, meaning their asthma control test (ACT) score is below 20, or they have had at least one asthma flare-up in the past 12 months that required steroid treatment
- People who are overweight or obese, with a body mass index (BMI) of 25 or higher
- People who are 18 years of age or older
Who may not be able to join:
- People who are currently pregnant, planning to become pregnant in the next 6 months, or currently breastfeeding
- People who have had a serious heart condition, heart attack, or stroke within the last 6 months
- People who have another long-term lung condition, such as COPD, bronchiectasis, or scarring of the lungs
- People who currently smoke, or former smokers with a heavy smoking history (20 pack-years or more) (confirm with trial site)
- People with significant kidney disease, where the kidneys are not functioning above a certain level (confirm with trial site)
- People who drink heavily — generally 8 or more drinks per week for women, or 15 or more drinks per week for men
- People with liver disease, or whose liver function blood tests show results more than twice the normal level
- People with low red blood cell levels (anaemia), based on specific blood test thresholds for men and women (confirm with trial site)
- People currently taking GLP-1 medications (such as those used for weight loss, for example semaglutide)
- People with diabetes, including those with a specific blood sugar marker above a certain level, or those taking metformin or other diabetes medications
- People already taking part in another clinical trial (participation in observational studies is permitted)
