Who might be able to join this trial:
- Pregnant women who are being cared for at Brugmann University Hospital and whose baby is born between 32 weeks and 36 weeks and 6 days of pregnancy
- Women who are carrying a single baby (not twins or more)
Who may not be able to join:
- Women whose baby has been found to have physical abnormalities, low blood count (anemia), or poor growth with abnormal blood flow detected on ultrasound
- Women who have an abnormally positioned placenta, such as a placenta previa (where the placenta blocks the birth canal)
- Women whose baby is showing signs of distress that require an emergency caesarean section
- Women with certain health conditions, including severe anemia (very low red blood cell levels), preeclampsia (a serious blood pressure condition during pregnancy), or blood clotting disorders
- Women who do not agree to receive blood products if needed
- Women who require general anaesthesia for a caesarean section
- Women who have planned to bank their baby's cord blood
- Women for whom there is a complete language barrier and no translator is available
