Who might be able to join this trial:

  • People aged 18 or older
  • People who have been referred to a vascular medicine department at one of the study centres for an arterial ultrasound of at least one leg, and who are also having a blood pressure measurement taken at the toe
  • People who have a confirmed arterial disease (with or without symptoms), shown by a resting ankle blood pressure reading of 0.90 or below, or a resting toe blood pressure reading of 0.70 or below

Who may not be able to join:

  • People whose condition is medically unstable and who cannot safely wait for the ultrasound and toe pressure measurements to be completed before receiving treatment
  • People who already have surgery on their leg (related to poor blood flow in the legs) planned at the time of joining the trial
  • People whose life expectancy is less than 24 hours
  • People who have previously had an amputation across the foot or higher up the leg, if this would make it impossible to take the required toe pressure or oxygen measurements
  • People who do not wish to take part
