Who might be able to join this trial:

• People diagnosed with resectable stage cII or cIII esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (a specific type of esophageal cancer), classified using the 8th edition international staging system
• People who have not yet received any anti-cancer treatment for esophageal squamous cell carcinoma
• People aged between 18 and 75 years old
• People whose overall organ function, assessed before surgery, shows no reasons that would make surgery unsafe
• People whose blood and organ function test results meet all of the following: haemoglobin at least 9.0 g/L; white blood cell count between 4.0 and 10 × 10⁹/L; neutrophil count at least 1.5 × 10⁹/L; platelet count at least 100 × 10⁹/L; total bilirubin no more than 1.5 times the upper limit of normal; liver enzymes (ALT and AST) no more than 2.5 times the upper limit of normal; blood clotting measurements within acceptable ranges; and creatinine (a kidney marker) no more than 1.5 times the upper limit of normal
• People who have not previously received chemotherapy, radiation therapy, or hormone therapy for any cancer, and who have no history of other cancers — with one exception: prostate cancer patients who received hormone therapy and have been disease-free for more than 5 years may still be considered (confirm with trial site)
• People whose cancer is expected to be fully removable by surgery (known as R0 resection)
• People with a general health and activity level rated as ECOG 0 or 1 (meaning fully active or able to carry out light activity)
• People who are willing and able to read and sign an informed consent form

Who may not be able to join:

• People who have already received any treatment for esophageal cancer, including surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, immunotherapy, or targeted therapy
• People who are not suitable candidates for surgery, or for whom surgery carries specific medical risks
• People who have previously received any treatment targeting PD-1 or PD-L1 (a type of immunotherapy)
• People with immune system deficiencies, those on long-term steroid treatment, or those who have received any immunosuppressive medication within 7 days before starting the study drug
• People who have had an active autoimmune disease requiring ongoing systemic treatment within the past 2 years
• People with poorly controlled heart disease
• People who are pregnant or breastfeeding
• People who have a known allergy to any of the drugs used in this trial
