Who might be able to join this trial:
- Adults aged 18 or older, of any gender
- People who were diagnosed with ulcerative colitis (a type of bowel disease) at least 3 months before the screening visit, with the diagnosis confirmed by camera examination of the bowel and tissue samples
- People whose ulcerative colitis is currently active, as confirmed by a camera examination of the bowel
- People who are able to sign a written consent form to contribute to a bowel disease sample collection at UC San Diego
- People who meet the above criteria and whose doctor is considering treatment with a medication called ozanimod, and who will not be receiving biologic medications at the same time
Who may not be able to join:
- People whose doctor believes they are likely to need surgery to remove part or all of the colon or bowel within 12 weeks of the start of the trial
- People who currently show signs of a severe bowel flare, a dangerously enlarged colon, or a hole in the bowel wall
- People who have previously had their entire colon surgically removed
- People with a low platelet count (the blood cells that help with clotting) below a certain level
- People who have a current bowel infection caused by bacteria, parasites, or a germ called Clostridioides difficile at the time of screening — though if C. difficile is found, treatment may be given and testing repeated (confirm with trial site)
- People who are in prison or are being held involuntarily
