Who might be able to join this trial:
- Your doctor has decided you are a suitable candidate for a lung procedure using a device called the Zephyr Valve, following Japanese medical guidelines
- You have completed a breathing/lung exercise rehabilitation programme within the last 6 months
- You have not smoked for at least 4 months
- Your lung volume test results show your lungs are holding more air than normal (specifically, total lung capacity at 100% or above, and residual volume at 175% or above of expected levels)
- Your breathing test (measuring how much air you can blow out) falls within a specific range — between 15% and 45% of the expected level after using a breathing-opening medication
- You are able to walk between 100 and 500 metres in a 6-minute walking test
- You experience significant breathlessness in daily life, rated at level 2 or higher on a standard breathlessness scale
- You do not have a blood clotting disorder
- You do not currently have an active lung or airway infection
- A special test called Chartis has confirmed that air does not flow between certain parts of your lungs in a way that would reduce the effectiveness of the valve procedure
