Who might be able to join this trial:
- Women who have been confirmed through a tissue test (biopsy) to have a type of breast cancer that is fuelled by the hormone oestrogen (called ER+ breast cancer).
- People whose breast cancer is either locally advanced (meaning the tumour is larger than 5 cm and/or has spread to nearby lymph nodes under the arm), has come back after previous treatment, or has spread to other parts of the body — and who are already scheduled to have a specific type of imaging scan called an 18F-FDG PET/CT or PET/MRI scan as part of their standard care.
- People who are willing and able to take part in the study procedures.
- People who have personally signed a form giving their written agreement to take part in the trial.
Who may not be able to join:
- People under 18 years of age.
- People who are pregnant.
- People who have another type of cancer in addition to breast cancer, with the exception of certain common skin cancers (non-melanoma skin cancer).
- People who are not already having an 18F-FDG PET/CT or PET/MRI scan as part of their care.
- People who cannot safely have a PET/MRI scan — for example, those who have a pacemaker, certain metal clips or devices in their body, severe claustrophobia (fear of enclosed spaces), or severe obesity.
- People who have a long-term inflammatory condition such as rheumatoid arthritis.
- People whose kidneys are not working well enough, based on a specific blood test result (confirm with trial site for exact threshold).
- People who are not able to give their own written consent to participate.
