Who might be able to join this trial:
- Men aged 18 or older
- People who have been confirmed through tissue or cell testing to have prostate cancer (specifically a type called adenocarcinoma)
- People who are considered "poor risk" and have prostate cancer that has spread to other parts of the body (metastatic), and who have not yet been treated or have had a return of the cancer
- People with a high amount of cancer spread, confirmed by standard imaging scans (CT or MRI, plus a bone scan), taken before starting hormone therapy and a specific type of cancer-blocking medication
- People with either a high or low amount of cancer spread, plus a PSA level of 4.0 or above after 6 to 8 months of starting hormone therapy
- People who are willing to have specialised PET scans as part of the study, and who receive ongoing care from a cancer specialist, radiation specialist, or urologist at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre
- People who have not had a PSMA or FDG PET scan in the 60 days before each scheduled scan in the study
- People already taking part in other clinical trials may be eligible if all other criteria are met
Who may not be able to join:
- People taking part in a randomised controlled trial where it is unknown which treatment they are receiving
- People who are unable to undergo or complete the required PSMA PET and FDG PET scans
- People who are unable to provide written consent themselves or through a legal representative
- People whose treating doctor considers that their overall health or other conditions would seriously affect their ability to follow the study procedures or attend follow-up appointments
- People with serious uncontrolled health conditions that could affect the safety of the scans or make the scan results difficult to interpret (confirm with trial site)
- People with another active cancer diagnosis
- People currently on dialysis
- People who have received another radioactive substance or experimental treatment within a certain period before the PET scans (specifically within 5 half-lives of that substance — confirm with trial site for exact timeframes)
