Who might be able to join this trial:
- People aged 18 to 75 years old (male or female)
- People who have had their first-ever stroke caused by a blockage in a large blood vessel in the brain
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have a known allergy to any of the medications being studied in the trial
- People who had seizures as part of their stroke
- People with major failure of a vital organ (such as the heart, liver, or kidneys)
- People who have been diagnosed with cancer
- People who had a heart attack in the six weeks before joining
- People who took blood-thinning or anti-clotting medications in the week before joining
- People whose stroke was very mild (a score of 3 or lower on a standard stroke severity scale) or very severe (a score of 25 or higher on that same scale)

- People for whom surgery to clear blockages in the neck, brain, or heart arteries was already planned within seven days of joining the trial
- People who had a stroke caused by a blood clot travelling from the heart, either before or after treatment — including people with conditions such as atrial fibrillation, certain heart valve problems, or a hole in the heart
- People diagnosed with atrial fibrillation (an irregular heart rhythm) based on a standard heart tracing test
- People with a condition that could cause bleeding in the stomach or gut, such as a stomach ulcer
- People who have had a previous stroke
- People with blood sugar levels that are too low (below 50 mg/dL) or too high (above 400 mg/dL) at the time of joining
- People with abnormal blood clotting results or a low platelet count (confirm with trial site for exact values)
- People who regularly take certain medications that affect how the body processes a drug called clopidogrel — including some heartburn medications (proton pump inhibitors), ketoconazole (an antifungal), certain blood pressure medications (dihydropyridine calcium channel blockers), or rifampin (an antibiotic)
- People who are pregnant or breastfeeding
- People whose stroke involved a blocked vein rather than a blocked artery in the brain
- People whose stroke was caused by reduced blood flow rather than a direct blockage
