Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have given written consent to participate
- People who have a confirmed diagnosis (based on tissue testing) of a specific type of oesophageal cancer (adenocarcinoma or squamous cell carcinoma) located in the chest area of the oesophagus or at the junction where the oesophagus meets the stomach (certain subtypes only)
- People whose cancer meets specific staging criteria — either the tumour has grown to a certain size with or without lymph node involvement but has not spread to other parts of the body, or people with early-stage oesophageal cancer who are not suitable for surgery as the first treatment
- People aged 18 years or older
- People who are generally well enough to carry out daily activities, as measured by standard medical scoring tools (confirm with trial site)
- People without significant personal, family, social, or location-related circumstances that might make it difficult to follow the study schedule and attend appointments
Who may not be able to join:
- People whose cancer is located in the upper (cervical) part of the oesophagus, very close to the mouth
- People with clear evidence that the cancer has spread to other parts of the body
- People who have had another active cancer within the past two years that could affect how the oesophageal cancer is treated
- People who have previously had radiation therapy to the chest area in a way that would overlap with the radiation fields used in this trial
- People who are pregnant or breastfeeding
- People who received chemotherapy before the combined radiation and chemotherapy treatment being studied, unless the last dose was given no more than 90 days and no fewer than 10 days before joining the trial (confirm with trial site)
