Who might be able to join this trial:

  • Men over the age of 40
  • Men who have prostate cancer that has not spread beyond the prostate, and who are having a specific type of biopsy performed (either a transperineal template biopsy or an MRI-guided biopsy combined with a systematic biopsy)
  • Men whose cancer is at an early stage (classified as T1–T2c), with no spread to lymph nodes or other parts of the body, a PSA blood test result below 20 ng/ml, and a Gleason score of 7 or lower — or men whose cancer is assessed by the research doctor as low-to-medium risk within a similar early stage (confirm with trial site)
  • Men who are receiving treatment with either a HIFU device (high-intensity focused ultrasound delivered via a rectal probe) or a robot-assisted keyhole surgery to remove the prostate

Who may not be able to join:

  • Men who have had an active infection of the urinary or genital system within 100 days before their surgery
  • Men who have previously had radiation therapy
  • Men who have certain abnormal blood test results before surgery, including elevated liver enzyme levels (ALT, AST, or alkaline phosphatase more than 3 times the normal upper limit), blood clotting problems, or a history of another cancer — though men with a history of cancer that has not come back in the last 5 years may still be considered, and certain skin cancers may be exceptions (confirm with trial site)
  • Men who have a metal implant or stent inside the urethra (the tube that carries urine)
  • Men whose prostate cancer is located at the front tip of the prostate or in a position that cannot be safely reached by the treatment, or where important surrounding organs would block the treatment path
  • Men who the research doctor considers unsuitable for the trial for other reasons, such as significant mental health or emotional difficulties, or problems with hearing, speaking, reading, writing, or following a treatment plan
