Who might be able to join this trial:
- Adults aged 25 years or older, of any gender
- People who have been diagnosed with thumb base joint osteoarthritis (confirmed by imaging), are experiencing symptoms from it, and are already planned to have a surgical procedure called a trapeziectomy to treat it
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have previously had surgery on the affected thumb base joint
- People whose thumb base joint osteoarthritis was caused by an injury
- People who have rheumatoid arthritis or another long-term inflammatory joint condition, a history of psoriasis affecting the joints, gout, or pseudogout
- People who currently have an active infection in the hand or wrist
- People who are unable to participate in follow-up appointments or understand information about the study, for example due to language barriers, a serious psychiatric condition, significant cognitive impairment, or drug addiction
- People who have received steroid injections (systemic or directly into the joint), platelet-rich plasma injections, or hyaluronic acid injections into the affected joint within the 3 months before enrolling in the trial
