Who might be able to join this trial:

• People aged between 18 and 45 years old
• People who are fluent in English
• People who are able to give their informed consent to participate

For people with schizophrenia, these additional criteria also apply:

• People who have a confirmed diagnosis of schizophrenia according to DSM-V diagnostic standards
• People who are either not taking antipsychotic medication, or who have been on a stable dose of antipsychotic medication for a consistent period

Who may not be able to join:

• People who have ferrous (magnetic) metal anywhere in their body
• People who are currently pregnant or breastfeeding
• People who have physical difficulties with hand or finger movement that would prevent them from completing a finger-tapping task
• People with an IQ below 85
• People who have a neurological condition, including epilepsy or a seizure disorder
• People who have significant hearing or vision loss
• People who have a long-term medical condition that affects their sleep
• People who have an unstable long-term medical condition, such as asthma, diabetes, cystic fibrosis, or heart disease
• People who have a diagnosed sleep disorder, with the exception of insomnia
• People who have a history of a head injury that caused an extended loss of consciousness or resulted in lasting neurological effects

For healthy adults (those without schizophrenia), these additional criteria also apply:

• People with a history of mental illness
• People currently taking psychiatric medications, or any medications known to affect sleep or cognition
