Who might be able to join this trial:

For the child:

  • Children between 5 and 14 years old who are in grades K–8
  • Children who have been prescribed a daily inhaled steroid (a type of controller medication) for asthma
  • Children whose asthma has not been well controlled recently — this is measured by a standard asthma score of 19 or below, OR who have had at least one of the following in the past year: a course of steroid tablets, a hospital stay, an emergency department visit, or an unplanned sick visit for asthma
  • Children whose parent or the child themselves has reported having trouble remembering to take their daily inhaled medication, or who regularly skip doses or take breaks from it
  • Children who are able and willing to give their agreement to take part (called assent)
  • Children who meet the eligibility requirements for the Asthma Link program (the program this trial involves)

For the parent or guardian:

  • A parent or legal guardian of the child taking part
  • Aged 18 years or older
  • Able to understand and communicate in English or Spanish
  • Able and willing to give formal consent to take part

Who may not be able to join:

For the child:

  • Children who are not willing or are unable to give their agreement to take part
  • Children with a developmental condition that would prevent them from participating in the study
