Who might be able to join this trial:
- You are at least 18 years old
- You are scheduled to have your gallbladder removed by keyhole surgery (or open surgery if needed)
- You have had all the necessary tests done, including a specialised internal ultrasound scan called an EUS
- You have had your first ever episode of acute pancreatitis (sudden inflammation of the pancreas) where the EUS scan did not find a clear cause
- You have agreed to take part and signed a consent form
Who may not be able to join:
- You have had more than one episode of acute pancreatitis in the past
- You have been diagnosed with long-term (chronic) pancreatitis
- You have been diagnosed with a severe form of pancreatitis where tissue has been destroyed (necrotizing pancreatitis)
- You currently have cancer of the pancreas
- You have already had your gallbladder removed in a previous operation
- A clear cause for your pancreatitis has already been found and identified
