Who might be able to join this trial:
- People aged 50 and older
- People who have been diagnosed with peripheral artery disease (PAD) — a condition where reduced blood flow affects the legs — confirmed by one of the following: a specific blood pressure test in the ankle showing reduced flow, imaging evidence of a significant blockage (at least 70%) in an artery supplying the legs, or a borderline ankle pressure reading that drops noticeably after a heel-rise exercise test
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have had an amputation of part or all of either leg
- People with a very severe form of PAD that causes pain at rest, combined with very low blood flow readings
- People who use a wheelchair full-time or need a walker to get around
- People whose walking ability is limited by a condition other than PAD
- People who currently have an ulcer (open sore) on the bottom of their foot
- People who do not successfully complete the study's initial run-in period
- People who have major surgery, or a procedure to open blocked arteries in the heart or legs, planned within the next four months
- People who have had major surgery, a heart or leg artery procedure, or a major heart-related event within the previous three months
- People with serious ongoing health conditions, including a lung disease requiring oxygen use during the day, Parkinson's disease, a life-threatening illness with a life expectancy of less than six months, or cancer that has required treatment within the past two years (confirm with trial site regarding exceptions for early-stage cancer with an excellent outlook, or oxygen needed only at night)
- People who score below 23 on a standard memory and thinking assessment
- People who do not speak English
- People who have participated in or completed another clinical trial within the previous three months (specific waiting periods apply after stem cell, gene therapy, supplement, or drug trials — confirm with trial site)
- People whose vision problems affect their ability to walk
- People whose walking distance in a six-minute walk test falls below 400 feet or above 1,700 feet
- People who have taken part in a supervised treadmill or cardiac rehabilitation exercise program in the past three months, or who plan to start one within the next five months
- People who are not willing to avoid using red light therapy outside of the study
- People whose resting blood pressure is below 100/45
- People whom the trial investigator determines, at their discretion, may not be a safe or suitable fit for the trial
