Who might be able to join this trial:
- People aged 18 years or older
- People who have been diagnosed with thumb base joint arthritis (TMO), confirmed by an X-ray reviewed by a radiologist
- People who are experiencing pain at the base of the thumb
- People whose attending doctor has decided that a corticosteroid (steroid) injection into the thumb joint would be the most appropriate treatment, rather than surgery or other options
- People who can read, understand, and respond in either French or English
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have had one or more steroid injections in the affected thumb in the past 12 months, or who have previously had surgery on that thumb
- People whose thumb pain is caused by an injury (such as a fracture or sprain), rheumatoid arthritis, or a condition called De Quervain's tendonitis
- People who are currently pregnant or breastfeeding
- People with a known allergy to any of the ingredients in the injection solution (triamcinolone acetonide, benzyl alcohol, carboxymethylcellulose sodium, hydrochloric acid, polysorbate, sodium chloride, or sodium hydroxide) or to iodinated contrast media (a type of dye used in medical imaging)
