Who might be able to join this trial:
- You have been diagnosed with acute pancreatitis (a sudden inflammation of the pancreas) within the past 90 days before joining the study
- You are able to fully take part in all parts of the study, including signing a consent form, completing questionnaires, taking part in phone interviews, undergoing metabolic tests, and attending follow-up appointments over time
Who may not be able to join:
- You have already been diagnosed with chronic (long-term) pancreatitis, confirmed by a CT scan, MRI, or MRCP showing calcium deposits or blockages in the pancreas
- Your acute pancreatitis was caused by a procedure called ERCP, and your hospital stay lasted less than 48 hours
- You have already had a surgical or procedure-based removal or draining of dead tissue in or around the pancreas before joining the study (though if this happens after you join, you may stay in the study)
- You have a tumor in the pancreas, such as pancreatic cancer, neuroendocrine tumors, or cancer that has spread to the pancreas
- You have a confirmed or suspected fluid-filled cyst or tumor connected to the main pancreatic duct, or one that may have caused your pancreatitis (confirm with trial site)
- You have previously had surgery on your pancreas, such as removal of part or all of the pancreas
- You have taken certain medications that are not allowed in this study within the 30 days before joining (the full list is held by the trial site — confirm with trial site)
- You have a serious ongoing illness that could affect the study results or put you at extra risk, including: having had an organ transplant, having AIDS, being treated for cancer (other than certain skin cancers) in the past 12 months, having severely reduced kidney function or being on dialysis, having advanced liver disease, or having any condition where you are not expected to live more than 12 months
- You are known to be pregnant at the time of joining (though if you become pregnant during the study, you may be able to continue with some changes to your assessments)
- You are currently in prison or incarcerated
- You have any other condition or situation that the study team believes could affect your safety or the reliability of the study results (confirm with trial site)
