Who might be able to join this trial:
- You are between 18 and 80 years old
- You have been diagnosed with esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (a specific type of esophageal cancer), confirmed by a tissue sample/biopsy
- Your cancer is at a locally advanced stage, meaning it may have spread to nearby lymph nodes, including possibly the lymph nodes above the collarbone, but not to distant parts of the body — as confirmed by CT scan and/or internal ultrasound
- You are able to carry out daily activities mostly or fully on your own (confirm with trial site)
- Your blood counts, liver function, and kidney function are within acceptable healthy ranges as shown by recent blood tests
Who may not be able to join:
- You have, or have had, another type of cancer (except previously cured skin basal cell carcinoma or cervical carcinoma in situ)
- You have already received previous treatment for this cancer
- Your cancer has spread to distant parts of the body such as bones, brain, lungs, liver, or abdomen, or you have fluid build-up in the chest or abdomen due to cancer
- Your esophagus has already perforated (developed a hole) or is at high risk of doing so
- Your tumor is growing very close to major blood vessels, creating a risk of serious bleeding
- You currently have an active infection, such as active tuberculosis or hepatitis
- You have a medical reason why you cannot receive immunotherapy (confirm with trial site)
- You are pregnant, breastfeeding, or of childbearing age and not using reliable contraception
- You have serious heart problems, such as uncontrolled heart failure, coronary artery disease, irregular heartbeat, uncontrolled high blood pressure, or you have had a heart attack in the last 6 months — or you have other serious uncontrolled conditions such as diabetes or high blood pressure
- Your situation does not meet the trial's requirements for other medical reasons, as judged by the research team
