Who might be able to join this trial:
- You are between 18 and 50 years old.
- Your surgery date and type have already been scheduled and confirmed.
- You have signed the required consent forms for both the surgery and the research study.
- You have breast cancer in one breast only (not both).
- You are in generally good health and able to safely undergo general anesthesia and surgery.
- You have never had radiation therapy to your breast or armpit area.
- You are willing and able to follow all study visits, treatments, and procedures as required.
Who may not be able to join:
- You have breast cancer in both breasts.
- You have a type of breast cancer called inflammatory breast cancer.
- Your breast cancer has spread to other parts of the body (Stage IV).
- Tests or scans show the tumor has grown into the skin, chest muscle, or nearby tissues.
- You have a blood clotting condition that makes surgery unsafe.
- You do not have breast cancer in your other breast but are asking to have it removed as a precaution.
- You have already had breast cancer surgery before (such as mastectomy or breast-conserving surgery) and are requesting a second breast surgery.
- You have been diagnosed with another type of cancer, either in the past or currently (thyroid cancer is an exception to this).
- The research team has identified another reason they feel you are not suitable for the study (confirm with trial site).
