Who might be able to join this trial:
- Adults aged 18 years or older
- People who have been diagnosed with a spontaneous brain bleed (bleeding in the brain that was not caused by an injury), confirmed by a CT scan without contrast dye
- People who are within 24 hours of when their symptoms started, or within 24 hours of when they were last seen to be well before symptoms were noticed
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have previously had decisions made to limit their medical care (such as a "do not resuscitate" order or similar care restrictions)
- People with a serious ongoing illness that is expected to limit their life expectancy to less than 6 months, such as terminal cancer
- People whose brain bleed was caused by a brain tumour or a blood clot in the veins of the brain
- People who are showing signs that the brain is being severely compressed at the time they first arrive for care — for example, being completely unresponsive with both pupils fully dilated and not reacting to light
- Women who are more than 22 weeks pregnant may only be considered for the trial after a detailed discussion between doctors and an obstetrician to carefully weigh up the risks and benefits
