Who might be able to join this trial:
- You have severe paralysis of both arms and legs (called quadriplegia or tetraplegia) caused by either a spinal cord injury or ALS, with very little or no movement in your hands, wrists, and arms, and this has been the case for at least 1 year with no improvement
- Doctors expect you to live for at least 12 more months
- You are able to communicate in English
- You have a reliable caregiver who is consistently available to support you
Who may not be able to join:
- You have health conditions that would make surgery risky for you
- You have any active implanted medical devices (such as a pacemaker)
- Your Body Mass Index (BMI) is over 40, which doctors classify as morbid obesity
- You have a history of seizures or epilepsy that has been difficult to control
- You have a history of diabetes that has been difficult to control
- You need MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) scans as part of managing an ongoing health condition
- You have a weakened immune system, either from a condition you were born with or one you developed
- You currently use cigarettes, tobacco, or any other tobacco products
- You have a diagnosed psychiatric or psychological condition
- A brain MRI scan has shown bleeding, a tumor, or unusual or abnormal brain structure
- You have any other condition that, in the opinion of the research team, could make it unsafe for you to take part in the study or undergo the implant procedure (confirm with trial site)
