Who might be able to join this trial:
- People aged 16 or older who have been newly diagnosed with oesophageal cancer confirmed by a biopsy
- People whose cancer is located in the oesophagus (food pipe) or at the point where the oesophagus meets the stomach
- People who have already had CT and PET-CT scans as part of their cancer investigations
- People who have been referred for an EUS (endoscopic ultrasound) scan as part of their standard care
- People whose medical team has decided that their cancer may be treatable with the aim of cure, such as through surgery, endoscopic treatment, or chemoradiotherapy
- People with a cancer stage of T1–T4, N0–N3, M0 (meaning the cancer has not spread to distant parts of the body) (confirm with trial site)
- People whose general health and ability to carry out daily activities falls within an acceptable range, as measured by a standard medical scoring system (confirm with trial site)
- People whose cancer cell type is either adenocarcinoma or squamous cell carcinoma
Who may not be able to join:
- People whose cancer has come back after previous treatment, or where cancer remains after treatment
- People whose cancer has already been found to have spread to distant parts of the body before the EUS scan
- People who have previously had surgery to remove part or all of the oesophagus, or who have had radiotherapy to the oesophagus
- People who are unable to have an EUS (endoscopic ultrasound) procedure
- People who have another separate cancer at the same time
- People whose cancer is a cell type other than adenocarcinoma or squamous cell carcinoma
