Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who are between 18 and 45 years old
- People with a body mass index (a measure of body weight relative to height) below 40
- People who have had an ACL (knee ligament) reconstruction surgery
- People who have small meniscal (knee cartilage) lesions that are not causing symptoms and do not need surgical repair
- People who are willing to avoid any other injections or treatments into the knee joint for the entire duration of the study
- People who are willing to stop taking pain relief medications, including anti-inflammatory drugs like ibuprofen, at least one month before a knee fluid collection procedure and for the rest of the study (tramadol and paracetamol are allowed)
- People who are able to understand the study requirements and agree to take part voluntarily
Who may not be able to join:
- People with a history of metabolic conditions, hormonal disorders, rheumatic or connective tissue diseases, cancer, or who use hormonal contraception, steroid medications, or antibiotics
- People who have previously had an injection into the affected knee joint
- People who have had previous surgery (other than ACL reconstruction) or a broken bone in the affected leg
- People with a history of nicotine, alcohol, or drug addiction
- People whose MRI scan shows a meniscal (knee cartilage) tear that requires stitching or full removal of the cartilage
- People who have injuries to multiple knee ligaments or injuries to multiple parts of the body
- People who have a significant inward or outward bowing of either knee greater than 10 degrees, as measured by X-ray
