Who might be able to join this trial:

For people with Alzheimer's disease:

• You have been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease according to recognised medical diagnostic guidelines (NINCDS-ADRDA criteria)
• Your dementia has been rated at a certain level of severity or above, based on a standard assessment called the Clinical Dementia Rating scale (score of 0.5 or higher)

For healthy volunteers:

• You have no complaints or noticeable signs of memory or thinking problems
• You score above the normal cutoff on a standard memory and thinking test called the MMSE

Who may not be able to join:

For people with Alzheimer's disease:

• Your memory or thinking problems are caused by a condition other than Alzheimer's disease
• You are currently experiencing sudden confusion or disorientation (known as delirium)
• You have a history of drug abuse
• You have severe hearing loss, difficulty speaking, or other conditions that would affect your ability to complete the assessments

For healthy volunteers:

• You have a known physical injury or disease affecting the brain
• You have another serious physical health condition, such as a severe immune system disease
