Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have been diagnosed with atopic eczema (either personally, or with a personal and family history of allergic conditions), of any severity level as classified by the UK health guidelines body NICE
- People whose eczema severity score (measured using a standard scale called SCORAD) is at least 15 at the start of the trial
- People (or, for younger patients, their parents or legal guardians) who are able to read and understand the trial information sheet and sign the consent forms
- People who regularly use a leave-on moisturiser as part of their ongoing eczema management
- People who are not currently using antibiotic treatments (taken by mouth or applied to the skin) or a product called Doublebase Once
- People who are willing to use Doublebase Once, applied once a day, as their only leave-on moisturiser for 4 weeks
- People who are willing to continue their usual washing or cleansing routine, and/or use Doublebase Once as a soap substitute, throughout the study
For a smaller group within the trial who will have skin hydration measurements taken, an additional criterion applies:
- People whose baseline skin moisture reading (measured using a device called a corneometer) is 40 units or below
Who may not be able to join:
- People who are currently using, or have used in the past month, any antibiotic treatments (by mouth or on the skin) or Doublebase Once for their eczema
- People who have a known sensitivity or intolerance to any ingredient in Doublebase Once or similar products
- People who are currently taking part in another research study, or who have taken part in one within the past 30 days
- People (or their parents or legal guardians) who may have difficulty completing questionnaires, as these will be available in English only
- Employees of the company sponsoring the trial or of the research investigators, or their close family members (such as partners, children, parents, or siblings)
- People with any other medical condition that, in the opinion of the trial doctor, could affect their ability to take part safely
