Who might be able to join this trial:

  • You must be over 18 years old and willing to sign a consent form agreeing to take part in the study.
  • You must have a confirmed diagnosis of Giant Cell Arteritis (GCA) or Polymyalgia Rheumatica (PMR), confirmed by your doctor using recognised medical classification standards, and you must have either been newly diagnosed within the last 3 days or had a return of symptoms (a "flare") within the last 3 days.

Who may not be able to join:

  • You may not be eligible if your kidneys are not working well enough — specifically if your kidney filtration rate is below 30 mL/min (confirm with trial site).
  • You may not be eligible if you have another medical condition (separate from GCA or PMR) that requires you to regularly or occasionally take steroid medications (such as prednisone or cortisone) by mouth or injection.
  • You may not be eligible if you have been diagnosed with another inflammatory joint or rheumatic disease alongside GCA or PMR.
