Who might be able to join this trial:
- You have been formally diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease (AD) or Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) by a qualified neurologist
- Your MCI mainly affects memory, either noticed by you or by someone close to you
- Your memory has been tested and shown to be below the expected level for your education background
- Your score on a standard mental ability test (called the MMSE) is between 20 and 26 out of 30 (some exceptions may be made for people with fewer than 8 years of schooling)
- Your level of cognitive impairment falls within a specific mild range on a standard rating scale (CDR score of 0.5)
- You are still largely able to carry out everyday activities on your own
- Your score on another thinking and memory test (called the MoCA) is between 13 and 17, suggesting some difficulty with planning and problem-solving
- You are able to walk at least 10 feet without using a walking aid such as a cane or walker
- You completed at least 6 years of schooling, or have a work history that suggests no pre-existing intellectual disability
- You have not been admitted to a hospital in the last 60 days
Who may not be able to join:
- You are currently dealing with a serious illness that requires a hospital stay
- You have heart failure that is not well managed or controlled
- You have had a stroke at any point in the past
- You are unable to take part in the study activities for any reason
- You have a physical condition that would prevent you from walking or taking part, such as severe arthritis, serious joint or movement problems, poorly controlled high blood pressure or diabetes, kidney failure, or chest pain triggered by physical activity
- You are currently taking certain medications that may affect thinking or memory, such as antipsychotics, strong pain medications (opioids), stimulants, chemotherapy drugs, medications for Parkinson's disease (such as Levodopa), or medications used to treat Multiple Sclerosis or Parkinson's disease
- You have a condition involving a break from reality, such as psychosis
- You have another brain or nervous system condition that could affect the results, such as active brain infections, epilepsy/seizures, a serious head injury involving unconsciousness for more than 30 minutes, a brain tumour, or a stroke that caused lasting neurological or psychiatric effects
- You have had a substance use disorder, major depression, or generalised anxiety disorder within the last 6 months
