Who might be able to join this trial:
If you are being checked for Crohn's disease (CD):
- You are 18 years old or older
- You are scheduled for a colonoscopy because doctors suspect you may have newly developed Crohn's disease
- You have not yet received any medication or special diet treatment for this condition
If you are a healthy volunteer (comparison group):
- You are a similar age and gender to someone in the Crohn's disease group, and you are having a colonoscopy either for general digestive complaints (such as changes in bowel habits, bloating, or stomach pain) or for routine colorectal cancer screening
Who may not be able to join:
- You have already been diagnosed with inflammatory bowel disease (such as Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis) and have received treatment for it
- You have a long-term digestive condition such as celiac disease or certain other chronic gut disorders
- You have type 1 or type 2 diabetes
- You have had cancer in the past or currently have cancer
- Your Body Mass Index (BMI) is over 30 (confirm with trial site if unsure of your BMI)

- You have had major surgery on your stomach or intestines in the past
- Your suspected Crohn's disease appears to affect large areas of the small intestine or colon, or you have significant problems around the anal area
- Your condition appears to involve severe narrowing of the intestine or abnormal tunnels (fistulas) forming between organs
- You are regularly taking any medication by mouth or injection that suppresses the immune system or reduces inflammation — however, using these as inhalers, creams, or ointments does not automatically exclude you (confirm with trial site)
- You have a condition where your immune system does not work properly from birth
- You are currently pregnant or have been breastfeeding in the last 6 months
- You have a serious medical condition that the study doctors believe could affect the balance of bacteria in your gut, such as an autoimmune or rheumatic disease (confirm with trial site)
