Who might be able to join this trial:

  • You are over 18 years old and have been diagnosed with, or are suspected to have, giant cell arteritis (a condition where the immune system causes inflammation in the blood vessels).
  • You have recently developed vision problems that are thought to be linked to inflammation of the blood vessels (for the main study group).
  • You are able to understand and agree to take part in the study.
  • You are over 18 years old and have recently developed sudden vision problems that look similar to giant cell arteritis, but where the cause is not related to blood vessel inflammation (for the comparison group).

Who may not be able to join:

  • You have a pre-existing eye condition that could already affect your vision or eye examination results.
  • You currently have an active infection (such as a viral, bacterial, fungal, or parasitic infection), including HIV, hepatitis B, hepatitis C, or tuberculosis that has been treated for less than 4 weeks, if it affects the eyes or the area around the eyes.
  • You have another ongoing inflammatory condition in your body that is not related to giant cell arteritis (though conditions that are in remission and not requiring treatment may still be eligible — confirm with trial site).
  • The trial doctors have identified any other reason that they feel makes participation unsuitable for you (confirm with trial site).
