Who might be able to join this trial:

  • You must be 18 years of age or older
  • You must have arrived at the emergency department between 4.5 and 6 hours after your stroke symptoms first started (or after you were last seen acting normally)
  • You must be showing signs of a stroke caused by a blocked blood vessel (ischemic stroke)
  • You must have been fully independent or nearly fully independent in daily life before this stroke, with little to no disability
  • Your stroke symptoms must be at least moderately severe, as measured by a standard medical stroke scale (NIHSS score of 5 or higher)
  • You must be a suitable candidate for a procedure to remove the blood clot from the blocked vessel (endovascular thrombectomy)
  • You must be willing and able to sign a consent form agreeing to take part

Who may not be able to join:

  • People whose stroke symptoms are mild, below a certain severity level on the standard stroke scale (NIHSS score below 5)
  • People who are unable to have an MRI scan because they feel severely anxious or panicked in enclosed spaces (claustrophobia)
  • People who have a cardiac pacemaker, brain pacemaker, or insulin pump implanted in their body
  • People for whom the clot-removal procedure (endovascular thrombectomy) is medically not an option
  • People whose weakness or paralysis is caused by a seizure rather than a stroke, or people with other neurological or psychiatric conditions that prevent them from cooperating with the trial
  • Women who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or not willing to use effective contraception during the trial
  • People who have taken part in another interventional clinical trial within the past 3 months
  • People who the trial doctor believes are not suitable for the trial, or for whom joining the trial may carry greater risks (confirm with trial site)
