Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have a known condition called Barrett's oesophagus (a change in the lining of the food pipe) and are scheduled for a procedure to investigate or treat a suspected early cancer in the food pipe using a technique to remove tissue (EMR or ESD)
- People who are able to understand the trial information and agree to take part
- People aged 18 or older
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have a known cancer elsewhere in the digestive system (other than the suspected lesion in the food pipe)
- People with serious health conditions that would make it unsafe to undergo an endoscopy procedure under sedation, such as severe heart or lung disease
- People who have enlarged veins in the food pipe (oesophageal varices)
- People with bleeding or clotting disorders that cannot be controlled
- People who are currently receiving chemotherapy or immunotherapy, or who received chemotherapy within the 6 weeks before the procedure
- People who are currently receiving radiotherapy to the area around the food pipe, or who received such radiotherapy within 6 months before the procedure
- People whose overall health and ability to carry out daily activities is rated as very poor, based on a standard medical scale called the WHO performance score (those with a score higher than 3 would not be eligible) (confirm with trial site)
