Who might be able to join this trial:
If you have a neurological condition:
- You are 45 years of age or older
- You are a man or a woman
- You have been diagnosed with one of the following conditions: Alzheimer's disease, frontotemporal lobe dementia (a type of dementia), Parkinson's disease, atypical Parkinsonism (a Parkinson's-related condition), ALS (also known as Lou Gehrig's disease), or normal pressure hydrocephalus (a condition involving fluid buildup in the brain)
- You are willing to take part in the study and sign a consent form
If you are a healthy volunteer (control participant):
- You are 45 years of age or older
- You are a man or a woman
- You may be related to a patient in the study, but not by blood (for example, a patient's spouse)
- You do not have any close blood relatives with a neurodegenerative disease
- You have no signs or symptoms suggesting dementia
- You are willing to take part in the study and sign a consent form
Who may not be able to join:
- Anyone who has a personal history of stroke or other blood vessel-related brain conditions, psychiatric illness, dementia caused by a head injury, or dementia related to HIV
- Patients whose diagnosis is uncertain or has not yet been officially confirmed
- Anyone who has an active infection affecting the brain or nervous system
- Anyone who has been diagnosed with a skin disease
- Patients whose condition is considered to present in an unusual or "atypical" way (confirm with trial site)
- Anyone who has a condition that affects their blood's ability to clot properly
