Who might be able to join this trial:
- People between 35 and 55 years of age
- People who have a degenerative tear in the inner cartilage pad (meniscus) of the knee, shown by pain on the inner side of the knee, tenderness along the inner knee joint, pain and limited movement when trying to do a full squat, and specific changes visible on at least two MRI scan images
- People whose personal doctor has cleared them to take part in an exercise program
Who may not be able to join:
- People whose knee X-rays show signs of osteoarthritis at a moderate level or above (known as K-L grade 2 or higher)
- People whose meniscus tear is the type that could be surgically repaired (a lengthwise tear in the outer part of the meniscus)
- People whose meniscus injury has caused the knee to lock and requires surgical removal of part of the meniscus
- People who have had a previous or current ligament injury or surgery on the affected knee
- People who have had a previous or current injury or surgery on the opposite knee
- People whose knee ligaments are found to be abnormally loose during a physical examination
- People who have an inflammatory joint condition (such as rheumatoid arthritis)
- People who have any injury or condition affecting their legs that makes walking difficult
- People who are pregnant at the time of enrolling in the trial
- People who have previously had surgery for an aneurysm, or who have a medical condition that may affect their general fitness or ability to exercise
- People who have any reason they cannot safely have an MRI scan
- People who have had surgery within the past two months
- People who have a cardiac pacemaker
