Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have some remaining weakness or reduced movement in one arm or hand after a stroke, shown by scoring below certain thresholds on standard arm and hand movement tests, or by the affected hand performing at least 10% worse than the unaffected hand on grip or dexterity tasks
- People who had an ischemic (blocked blood vessel) or hemorrhagic (bleeding) stroke at least 6 months before joining the trial
- People who score above 24 on a standard memory and thinking test (the Mini Mental State Exam), indicating sufficient cognitive ability to participate
- People who are willing and able to give their informed consent to take part
- People who have detectable nerve pathway signals from the stroke-affected side of the brain to an affected arm muscle, as measured by a brain stimulation test (confirm with trial site)
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have a history of any neurological disease or brain/nerve injury other than stroke
- People who have a cardiac pacemaker, cochlear implant, cortical stimulator, deep brain stimulator, vagus nerve stimulator, cervical spine epidural stimulator, or a ventriculoperitoneal shunt
- People who have any metal implants in the head or neck area (above the seventh cervical vertebra)
- People who have had a seizure in the last 12 months while taking anti-epilepsy medication
- People who have previously had a bad reaction to TMS (transcranial magnetic stimulation) or nerve stimulation treatments
- People who are currently pregnant, suspected to be pregnant, or planning to become pregnant
- People who have made any changes to their medications within the last month
