  • People who have some remaining weakness or reduced movement in one arm or hand after a stroke, shown by scoring below certain thresholds on standard arm and hand movement tests, or by the affected hand performing at least 10% worse than the unaffected hand on grip or dexterity tasks

  • People who have a cardiac pacemaker, cochlear implant, cortical stimulator, deep brain stimulator, vagus nerve stimulator, cervical spine epidural stimulator, or a ventriculoperitoneal shunt
  • People who have any metal implants in the head or neck area (above the seventh cervical vertebra)
  • People who have had a seizure in the last 12 months while taking anti-epilepsy medication
  • People who have previously had a bad reaction to TMS (transcranial magnetic stimulation) or nerve stimulation treatments
  • People who are currently pregnant, suspected to be pregnant, or planning to become pregnant
  • People who have made any changes to their medications within the last month
