Who might be able to join this trial:

For people with weight-recovered anorexia nervosa:

• Adults between 18 and 45 years old, of any sex or ethnic background
• People with a history of restricting-type anorexia nervosa (a form of anorexia focused on limiting food intake), as defined by standard psychiatric guidelines
• People whose weight has recovered to a body mass index (BMI) above 17.5 for at least one month at the time of the study
• People who still show elevated eating disorder-related thoughts or behaviours, as measured by two standard questionnaires (confirm with trial site)

For healthy volunteers (control group):

• Adults between 18 and 45 years old, of any sex or ethnic background
• People whose BMI has been in the normal range throughout their lifetime, according to standard public health guidelines

Who may not be able to join:

For people with weight-recovered anorexia nervosa:

• People who are currently pregnant or breastfeeding (those who are sexually active would need to agree to use contraception)
• People with a lifetime history of bipolar I disorder or psychosis
• People who have used or been dependent on substances in the past three months
• People with a psychotic illness, organic brain syndrome, dementia, or certain physical symptom disorders
• People with a history of significant head injury
• People with an indication of intellectual disability or autism spectrum disorder

For healthy volunteers (control group):

• People with any lifetime history of a psychiatric illness, including any history of an eating disorder
• People who are currently taking any medication
• People who have a close family member (parent, sibling, or child) with an eating disorder

For everyone in both groups:

• People with intellectual disability or a pervasive developmental disorder
• People with an organic brain syndrome or dementia
• People with a psychotic disorder or bipolar disorder
• People with somatic symptom disorder or conversion disorder
• People with a current alcohol or substance use disorder
• People with a significant medical illness, including a history of seizures
• People who are pregnant or breastfeeding at the time of the study
• People with a history of traumatic brain injury
• People with diabetes or other metabolic conditions that could be made worse by a ketogenic (very low carbohydrate) diet
• People with metal objects inside or near the head that cannot be safely removed (excluding the mouth)
• People with implanted nerve stimulators, lines inside the heart, or heart disease
