  • You must be a patient in the ICU who is on a breathing machine (ventilator) and whose doctors have already decided to use a special heart monitoring tube (called a pulmonary artery catheter) to track heart pressures and blood flow.

Who may not be able to join:

  • You have an electronic device in or on your chest, such as a pacemaker, or any metal implants in your chest.
  • You are known to be pregnant or are currently breastfeeding.
  • You have an open lung injury or a collapsed lung (a condition called pneumothorax).
  • You have open wounds, drainage tubes, burns, or skin rashes on the upper part of your chest.
  • The measurement around your chest is estimated to be smaller than 66 cm (about 26 inches) or larger than 134 cm (about 53 inches).
  • You have a known allergy to wound dressings or sticky materials, such as the gel used on stick-on electrodes.
