Who might be able to join this trial:
- People aged between 18 and 70 years old
- People with a diagnosis of Crohn's disease who have moderate or severe ongoing stomach pain that continues even when the condition is in remission (no major inflammation seen on CT or MRI scans, and a stool test result below a certain level), or where only mild inflammation is present based on a camera examination of the bowel
- People with a diagnosis of ulcerative colitis who have moderate or severe ongoing stomach pain that continues even when the condition is in remission (no major inflammation seen on CT or MRI scans, and a stool test result below a certain level), or where only mild inflammation is present based on a camera examination of the bowel
Who may not be able to join:
- People currently taking medications that reduce stomach acid or antacids
- People who are currently taking, or have taken in the last 8 weeks, antibiotics, antibacterial medications, or probiotic supplements
- People currently using opioid-based pain relief or anti-inflammatory medications such as ibuprofen for pain (paracetamol/acetaminophen is allowed)
- People with a history of alcohol or drug misuse
- People with other serious health conditions or abnormal test results that the trial doctors consider could pose a risk or affect the reliability of the trial results
