Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have been clinically diagnosed with Crohn's disease (CD)
- People aged between 16 and 75 years old
- People whose Crohn's disease is currently in remission, meaning their disease activity scores, blood inflammation markers, or stool tests are within normal ranges, or no ulcers are visible on a camera examination of the gut
- People who have had 2 or more flare-ups of their Crohn's disease in recent years
- People who are either not currently taking medication, or are only taking one or more of the following: mesalazine (at a certain dose), prednisone (at a low dose), or azathioprine (at a certain dose) — and have been on these for a minimum period of time — or people whose bodies have stopped responding well to certain biological medicines (such as anti-TNF-α, IL-12p40, or α4β7 treatments) (confirm with trial site for specific doses and timeframes)
- People who have never had acupuncture before
- People who have read and signed a consent form agreeing to take part in the trial
Who may not be able to join:
- People who are currently pregnant, recently pregnant, or breastfeeding
- People who have serious diseases affecting major organs or body systems
- People who have been diagnosed with a psychotic illness
- People who have multiple health conditions requiring long-term use of other medications that could interfere with measuring how well the trial treatment works
- People with severe skin conditions (such as painful red skin nodules or skin ulcers), serious eye conditions (such as inflammation inside the eye), blood clot disorders, or other significant complications outside the gut
- People who have serious gut-related complications such as abnormal connections between organs (fistulas), pockets of infection in the abdomen, narrowing or blockage of the bowel, anal abscesses, gut bleeding, or a hole in the bowel wall
- People with short bowel syndrome, or who have had abdominal or gut surgery within the past six months
- People who have skin conditions, wounds, or other skin problems in the areas of the body where acupuncture would be performed, making acupuncture unsafe in those areas
