Who might be able to join this trial:
- Men and women past menopause, between the ages of 50 and 80
- People who had their first-ever stroke between 1 and 5 years ago, confirmed by an MRI or CT scan
- People who are able to walk 10 metres on their own, with or without a walking aid such as a cane
- People whose heart condition is mild enough that everyday physical activity causes little to no symptoms, based on a standard heart health classification system
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have other neurological conditions, significant liver or kidney problems, thyroid or parathyroid conditions, rheumatoid arthritis, or a bone fracture in the past 6 months
- People who have received osteoporosis treatment in the past 3 years, taken steroid tablets for more than 3 months in the past year, or had botulinum toxin (such as Botox) injections in the affected leg in the past 6 months
- People who are currently taking part in stroke rehabilitation services or a structured exercise programme
- People who have difficulty with thinking, memory, or communication that could make it hard to follow instructions during the trial
- People for whom high-intensity exercise or exercise testing would not be medically appropriate, or who do not receive medical clearance from a specialist (confirm with trial site)
