Who might be able to join this trial:

• People who have agreed to take part voluntarily and have signed a consent form
• Adults aged 18 to 75 years old (male or female)
• People diagnosed with a specific type of oesophageal (food pipe) cancer called squamous cell carcinoma, confirmed by a tissue biopsy, with no spread to the lymph nodes in the neck
• People whose cancer is located in the middle or lower part of the oesophagus and has been assessed by scans and internal imaging as potentially removable by surgery, but where treatment before surgery is recommended (specific cancer stage and location criteria apply — confirm with trial site)
• People who have not previously received any cancer treatment of any kind, including surgery, radiation, chemotherapy, immunotherapy, or targeted therapy
• People who are in good general health and able to carry out daily activities with no or minimal limitations (confirm with trial site)
• People whose recent blood tests (within the past 14 days) show that their heart, lungs, liver, and kidneys are functioning adequately, including healthy levels of red blood cells, white blood cells, platelets, liver enzymes, kidney function markers, and blood clotting (confirm specific values with trial site)
• People who are able to attend all scheduled treatments and follow-up appointments as required by the study
• People who have enough tissue available from their biopsy and who agree to allow their tissue and blood samples to be used for research

Who may not be able to join:

• People who may have an abnormal opening between the oesophagus and the windpipe or major blood vessels
• People with severe malnutrition or who need to be fed through a tube
• People who have had another type of cancer within the past 2 years that has not been fully treated (exceptions may apply for certain fully treated skin cancers and a specific type of cervical pre-cancer — confirm with trial site)
• People with active autoimmune diseases, or a history of autoimmune conditions that require ongoing treatment with steroids or other immune-suppressing medications
• People with a weakened immune system, or who have been taking immune-suppressing medications (including steroids above a certain dose) within 7 days before starting treatment in this trial
• People with an active infection requiring ongoing medication within 7 days before starting treatment in this trial
• People with diabetes that is not well controlled
• People with certain lung conditions, including interstitial lung disease, non-infectious pneumonia, or pulmonary fibrosis
• People who have previously experienced nerve-related side effects affecting movement or sensation above a mild level
• People who have previously received an organ or stem cell transplant from another person
• People who are allergic to any of the medications or components used in this trial
• People who are currently taking part in another clinical trial
• People who have received certain types of immunotherapy or targeted cancer treatments within the 4 weeks before joining the trial
• People with any serious or unstable medical or mental health conditions
• People with known active alcohol or drug misuse or dependence
