Who might be able to join this trial:
- Adults over 18 years old, of any sex
- People who have a history of psoriasis affecting at least 3% of their body surface area, and who are willing to allow the lead researcher to perform skin biopsies on an affected area (this part is optional)
- People who also have a diagnosis of psoriatic arthritis may be eligible as well
- People with a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 25 or higher (which is considered overweight or above)
- People who are able to go without food or drink for at least 6 hours before and during a scan visit
- People who are able to avoid intense physical exercise for 24 hours before being scanned
- People whose usual diet is assessed as unhealthy, based on a food questionnaire and a three-day food diary — a scoring system will be used, and only those with a score below 58 (indicating a poor diet) will meet this part of the criteria
Who may not be able to join:
- People who take oral or injected medications to manage diabetes
- People who are already following a diet that restricts calories or specific food components
- People who follow a vegan or vegetarian diet, or who have a food allergy or intolerance to ingredients used in the study diet
- People whose body weight has changed by more than 5% in the past 2 months
- People who have taken any whole-body (systemic) medications to treat psoriasis or psoriatic arthritis within 3 months before the first scan, or who would need to take such medications during the trial
- People who have reported a fear of enclosed spaces (claustrophobia) or discomfort in closed environments
- People with poorly controlled diabetes, or whose blood sugar level is above 180 mg/dl at the time of the scan injection
- People who weigh more than 240 kg, due to the weight limit of the scanning equipment
- People with a known inflammatory condition or active infection that could affect the study results
- People who are pregnant or breastfeeding — a urine pregnancy test will be given before each scan session to participants who are able to become pregnant and are between 18 and 60 years old, unless documented surgical removal of the uterus or both ovaries is on record, due to risks from the radiation used in the scan
- People who are unable to lie still on a scanner bed with their arms at their sides for up to 60 minutes
- People who are currently taking part in another research study that may conflict with this one, or who have had a PET scan as part of a research study within the last 12 months
- People who are not willing to sign a consent form agreeing to take part
- People who are unable to understand the risks and benefits of the study
- People who are currently incarcerated
